Power Surge Protection

Power surges are unpredictable and can have multiple causes like sudden voltage fluctuations on a circuit, faulty appliances, storms, or supply faults from the power provider. As electronic wiring is steadily becoming more complicated, even minor power surges in such electrical systems can cause major damage that could at times be irreparable.

Often power surges are a consequence of an interruption in the flow of power, subsequently established directing or again power back into the infrastructure, such as by lightning. Though we feature lightning as the main cause of the majority of power strikes, it only accounts for approximately 2% of those instances. It is approximated that over 50% of the power surges that happen appear from high voltage compressors or appliances disrupting power flow on your house. This occurs many times through the day, mostly when equipment with motors powers up or shuts down, directing power from and to other equipment. How do surge protectors do the job?

Inside the surge protector, there is the principal electricity line or live cable which features an additional link attached to it which feeds into the ground. Any excess current is redirected to the floor through the ground wire. The explosion link remains in an inactive state until a voltage that’s excessive compared to some standard one triggers it to direct additional current to the floor during the additional wire. This prevents excessive current from flowing into your home appliances thus shielding them from damage.
